Advanced Systems and Designs SmartCable USB connects standard Mitytoyo gages (indicators, micrometers, calipers, etc) and other gages that mimic the Mitutoyo Digimatic signal, to a computer. Gages available from Chicago Dial Indicator, Mahr Federal, Ono Sokki and others have digital outputs compatible with the Digimatic signal. Connecting the SmartCable USB to a computer will allow the SmartCable USB send data to communication and terminal emulation programs (i.e. HyperTerminal) or any SPC data collection software program. NOTE: The SmartCable USB will NOT send data directly to a spreadsheet program such as Excel, without using a separate software wedge program. Please see our SmartCable Keyboard if you want to send data directly to Excel. The output of the SmartCable USB is a standard USB 2.0 COM port signal. The USB connection supplies power to the cable. The gage cannot obtain power from the SmartCable USB and must have a power supply (batteries) of its own. Readings can be triggered by any of the following: • Pressing the push button on the SmartCable USB • Depressing a connected footswitch (not included) • Pressing the send button on the gage (if it has one) • Sending a gage read command from the computer to the SmartCable USB. The SmartCable USB can send data in several modes; read only, continuous, continuous with delay, reading with unit of measure, and others.
