About Zoid Versus The Jazz Musicians Of Ireland 1
Daniel Jacobson is a musician and composer whose work ranges from acid-electro-acoustic solo project 'ZoiD', to a math-trad duo with Irish fiddler Caomhín O'Raghallaigh; from contemporary jazz quite-big-band 'The ZoiD Ensemble' to free improv duos and trios with many musicians. He co-founded Diatribe Recordings to enhable the recorded output of the current Irish creative music scene to be collected and made available from one place. Diatribe intends to release a series of albums entitled 'Bottlenote Series', each by a member of the Bottlenote Musicians' Club. In 2007 he released his debut album 'ZoiD Vs the Jazz Musicians of Ireland Vol 1' to critical acclaim on Diatribe. He is a member of the Young Composers' Collective and the Spatial Music Collective, for whom he has composed pieces for Dublin Guitar Quartet (Flocculonodular Lobes of the Cerebellum '07), solo double bass (Universe Blues for Dan Bodwell, '07) and 20 voice choir 'The New Dublin Voices' (Three Meditations for Twenty Voices '07), as well as numerous electronic works for multi-channel audio. He has also performed live improvised multi-channel works using gtr, laptop and jew's harp. He has been commissioned by The Kai Big Band, Yurodny, The IMC for Intro '05, The Rise Quartet and Spatial Music Collective. He has received grants from the Arts Council, Music Network, The IMC and TCD Performing Arts Fund. He is currently working on a piece entitled 'Chamber of ; {Life} and the [[flow]] of /|Consciousness|\' for piano, drums, cello and electronics, which will be completed in 2009. The research for this piece includes a year of meditation sitting and serving at meditation centres in North America and India, commencing in February 2008.
