About Joan Of ARC (1948) DVD
The film is a direct account of the life of the French heroine. It begins with a clearly painted shot of the interior of the basilica with a beam of light, either descending from heaven or shining from the ceiling, and a solemn voice-over reciting the canonization of the Virgin of Orleans. The opening page of what appears to be an ecclesiastical manuscript then appears on screen, recounting Joan's life in Latin, while an uncredited voice-over from actor Shepperd Strudwick begins the story. Then the real story of Joan begins, from the moment when she becomes convinced that she was divinely called to save France, until she is burned at the stake at the hands of the British and Burgundians.
