By inducing a charge on the aluminum ball, the armature will be deflected by an amount proportional to the charge. This electroscope consists of a ball terminal on a metal rod, insulated fom a circular metal frame. A pair of metal leaves suspended from the rod separate when the ball terminal is electrically charged.
