Omega-6 fatty acids like linoleic acid are well-supplied in the diet by meat and vegetable oils. But some omega-6s can contribute to the production of inflammatory compounds such as prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), thromboxane A2 and leukotriene B4 (LTB4). GLA and omega 6 fatty acids : Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) from borage oil, on the other hand, helps inhibit inflammatory compounds and promotes healthy prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) levels, both of which promote whole body health. Borage oil supplements are an excellent way to obtain GLA. GLA is the precursor to the biologically active dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA), which may provide optimal health benefits.
