The Boyer Corporation Red Crown Lye for Soap Features

  • Lye is also known as sodium hydroxide and caustic soda. Lye forms a great soap base for the production of lye soap. Our lye comes in a safe container fitted with a resealable child resistant cap.

  • Technical grade lye (food grade) is the lye of choice for soap making. Other household uses for this powerful lye are drain clog cleaning, oven grease removing and as a cleaning agent.

  • Lye has traditionally been used as the main ingredient in soap making. Want to make all natural, award winning, homemade, handcrafted soaps? This is the lye you are looking for!

  • Lye is used as a drain cleaner and clog remover. The corrosive behavior of sodium hydroxide will eat its way through the toughest drain clogs of grease and hair without ruining your pipes!

  • Lye is a main ingredient in many cleaning agents and is a great oven grease remover. Sodium hydroxide should be handled with extra care.

About The Boyer Corporation Red Crown Lye For Soap

4 Simple Steps to Wonderful Soap Making PRIZE WINNING HARD SOAP Step 1. Cleaning Fat. (This step may be omitted if freshly rendered fat or new lard is used). Boil 3 quarts kitchen grease, lard, tallow or fat with 3 pints of water. Remove from heat and add 3 quarts cold water to clean fat and remove salt. This may be done one quart at a time if larger cans are not available. Skim off clean, solidified fat for step 3. Step 2. Dissolve slowly 1/3 can Red Crown Lye in 1 quart of water and allow to cool to room temperature. Step 3. Heat fat to approx. 95 degrees. Pour lye solution from step 2 slowly into fat stirring as you pour. Stir for about 15 minutes until mixture gets honey-like. Step 4. Pour mixture into pan or wood box which has been lined with slightly damp cloth. Cover with newspaper, blanket or rug to hold in saponification heat. After 24 hours remove soap from mold and cut into bars with fine wire or string. Allow soap bars to cure where air can reach them, but not cold or drafts. Ten to fourteen days of curing will provide a better soap.
