About Stanley London Hand Blown Weather Glass Barometer

The concept that decreasing atmospheric pressure predicts stormy weather was postulated by Lucien Vidie and provides the basis for this glass barometer, which is sometimes referred to as a "storm glass" or a "Goethe barometer" (named for Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, who developed a simple but effective Weather Glass Barometer). The historic glass barometer is one of the oldest barometers in the world. Each barometer is hand blown and accurately forecasts changes in the weather hours in advance. Just fill the barometer with colored water and watch the rising or falling level of the liquid in the spout to indicate weather changes. A low water level signals "high pressure" and fair weather, and a high water level is associated with "low pressure" and poor weather conditions. Glass barometers are a fascinating instrument, and a great conversation piece. This traditional barometer is both a work of art, and the perfect instrument for any fine study, library, office or boat. Using different colors of ordinary natural food coloring dyes, you can match the color of the water in the barometer to any decor. A fill kit is included to fill and empty the barometer.
