Begin by finding the best location for your kayak straps. Do not suspend kayaks over doorways, walkways, or over valuable itemssuch as vehicles or other household items. J-Hooks must be installed into ceiling joists or rafters. While Kayak Straps will support up to 100 pounds, you must ensure that the place you mount your J-Hooks will support as much weight. Once a suitable location is determined you must decide how far apart to mount your straps. It is recommended that you base your distance between the hooks on the largest kayak you wish to hang. Typically thedistance between the hooks is about 60% of the length of the largest boat. Once the distance between the hooks is determined, mark the spotson the ceiling where the J-Hooks will be installed. Drill a 1" deep 1/8"pilot hole into the joist or rafter. Screw the hooks into the holes, ensuring that they are seated all the way in. Ensure that they are snug and are not easily removed.
