  • DIFFERENTIATING GROWTH MEDIUM || 100g bottle of powdered growth medium. Used to grow, maintain and determine if cultures produce extracellular enzymes to catalyze the hydrolysis of starch.

  • EASY TO PREPARE || Simply mix 25 g medium with 1 L deionized water and bring to a boil while stirring to ensure medium is completely dissolved. Pour into petri dishes, then allow medium to cool and solidify.

  • APPLICATIONS || Starch Agar is used to determine if bacteria produce extracellular enzymes to catalyze the hydrolysis of starch. Starch agar is inoculated and incubated at 37°C for 48 hours. The surface of the agar is then flooded with a potassium or potassium iodide solution (not included). Organisms that produce a starch hydrolyzing enzyme will display a clear zone around the area of growth while other areas of the agar containing starch will turn blue-black.

Agar comes dehydrated in a plastic open-mouth bottle for convenient storage. Each bottle makes 4 L of growth medium. Each bottle comes with an SDS, providing safe handling and storage information.
