OSS History... from its own manualsFounded in June 1942, at the direction of President Roosevelt, the OSS was to take the role of intelligence gathering and field operations to assit the U.S. War efforts in all theathres of operation. The fledgling group would go on to become an effective forces for spying and direct covert action against the Nazis and Japanese for the rest of the war.
