The book also discusses the most important means of appeal from any decision of a local administrative body, including either a zoning board or planning commission, the common law writ of certiorari. About the Author George Dean is an attorney in Nashville, Tennessee, whose practice concentrates in the area of land use planning and zoning law, as well as codes enforce- ment issues. He graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1979 and began practicing in the Legal Department for Metro Nashville. He represented the Zoning Board, Planning Commission, the Codes Administration, and the Historic Zoning Commission. In private practice, Mr. Dean has been involved in a large number of land use planning and zoning cases, representing both governmental and private interests. Many of his cases have been significant in the development of land use planning law in Tennessee over the last 30 years. Mr. Dean is the principal author of Legal Aspects of Codes Administration published by the ICC and is a frequent lecturer both in Tennessee and across the United States on zoning and codes issues. He just finished his Legal Handbook for Tennessee Codes Officials, and is working on a book on planning commissions in Tennessee. Both should be available soon.
