From the Author One Sunday morning I decided to visit Fair Oaks Bridge (crossing the American River) to discover what happens early in the morning. I returned every day for a week to see what might be different. Every day I saw and heard different wildlife fly over and engage in morning routines. Fishermen arrived before dawn to wait patiently in their boats to catch salmon swimming up the American River to spawn. My backpack, journal and camera are my constant companions. I observe, write, photograph and video the area's scenic beauty and dynamic relationships of wildlife living at the American River alongside Fair Oaks Bridge. A beautiful way to start any day - enjoying the people, the scenery and the wildlife. One month after my first visit, I began posting my observations as blogs to share my experiences. One year and 100 blogs later, I decided to publish a book to share the larger story of this special place and the settings that surround Fair Oaks Bridge. I continue to visit, write and photograph and post new blog entries. Writing and sharing my experiences on Fair Oaks Bridge is a natural extension of applying my skills as a naturalist, sharing my passion for the outdoor world, and interest in creating a meaningful sense of place for visitors and viewers.
