The clove tree is an evergreen tree that originated on the Maluku Islands in Indonesia, however the tree has been commercially cultivated throughout the east and is even grown in parts of the US – so it’s readily available all year. The flower buds of the plants are harvested and dried before they bloom and this is what we know as the clove spice. The pods are harvested and crushed in order to help release the phytochemicals, nutrients and vitamin-rich oils that are the base component of the essential oil.
