Inspired by construction sites around the modern urban built environment, “Query (in white, #1)” is part of a series created by the artist to explore the visual and philosophical “voids” that appear in the process of construction or demolition. Each unique and one-of-a kind painting is entitled, “Query”, and distinguished from one another by their color, in this case primarily Titanium White. The pigment- actually containing titanium- is suspended in beeswax and combined with tree resin to allow it to harden. The medium itself invokes a fossil. Contemplating the life of seemingly permanent structures, the artist recognizes their innate impermanence. It invokes questions of what we leave behind, and how we are remembered. Much like ancient ruins, often the only evidence of the lives of those cultures, Glasser’s paintings are a metaphor for the lives of those who live and work in the modern urban, ever-changing world.
