About Enjoying The Summer

The seafront 'Promenade' was always an important part of Victorian seaside holiday towns, and the evening stroll on the Promenade was often seen as pre or post-dinner socialising and entertainment. The invention of the package holiday and inexpensive flights meant these towns fell into gradual neglect and disrepair during the 20th century. Over the past decade, there has been a rise in the number of tourists at some of these towns. Some have started reinvesting in their promenades, many of which along with piers had fallen into sad neglect, since their hayday, over 100 years ago. These images are part of an ongoing project documenting the seafront of various 'destination' seaside towns in Kent and Sussex Limited edition of five archival gicleà prints, on Hahnemule Photo Rag. Signed, numbered and dated out side the image area.
