The information is accurate and enjoyable to read. It is written in a very clear and friendly manner providing insights into Darwin's thinking and the energy, time, and thought processes that go into developing a scientific idea. All of this is intertwined with personal information of Darwin, the tension between religion and science, and the struggles he experienced as an individual. The book also shows how popular ideas and scientists interact with each other giving rise to new ideas. Scientists clash with each other personally and intellectually but this is an important part of the rigor in the scientific community that is clearly shown in Strager's writing. After receiving an education from the University Aarhus, Denmark, she studied at the University of California, Santa Cruz, as a Fulbright Scholar. Strager cofounded a whale center in northern Norway and remains involved in cetacean research and conservation. She has served as the director of exhibitions at the Natural History Museum of Denmark and has twenty years' experience making science and natural history accessible to the general public. In 2009, she was awarded the Copenhagen University Natural Sciences Faculty's prize for science communication. In addition to A Modest Genius, Strager is the author of Precious Things, a book revealing the many treasures within the Natural History Museum of Denmark.
