The five purposes of your life are: 1. WORSHIP: You were planned for God's pleasure! After all this, there is only one thing to say: Have reverence for God, and obey his commands, because this is all that we were created for. ECCLESIASTES 12:13 (TEV) 2. FELLOWSHIP: You were formed for a family! It was a happy day for him when he gave us our new lives, through the truth of his Word, and we became, as it were, the first children in his new family. JAMES 1:18 (LB) 3. DISCIPLESHIP: You were created to become like Christ! God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives in him. ROMANS 8:29 (MSG) 4. MINISTRY: You were shaped for serving God! We are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. EPHESIANS 2:10 (NIV) 5. EVANGELISM: You were made for a mission! Jesus said, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." MATTHEW 28:19–20 (NIV) WHAT ON EARTH AM I HERE FOR? A life devoted to things is a dead life, a stump; a God-shaped life is a flourishing tree. PROVERBS 11:28 (MSG) Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they go right on producing delicious fruit. JEREMIAH 17:7–8 (NLT) DAY 1 It All starts with God For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. COLOSSIANS 1:16 (MSG) It is God who directs the lives of his creatures; everyone's life is in his power. JOB 12:10 (TEV) Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life. ROMANS 8:6 (MSG) Jesus said, "Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self." MATTHEW 16:25 (MSG) God's wisdom is something mysterious that goes deep into the interior of his purposes. You don't find it lying around on the surface. It's not the latest message, but more like the oldest—what God determined as the way to bring out his best in us, long before we ever arrived on the scene. 1 CORINTHIANS 2:7 (MSG) It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.
