A classic woodworking project is almost always the result of a successful marriage-the relationship between practical functionality and a beautiful design. There's nothing more satisfying than creating something useful that also looks great, and this handsome blanket chest project is a great example of that classic combination. The project provides extra storage-something every home can use-while looking great at the foot of the bed. It also serves as handy spot to tie your shoes in the morning. Easy and inexpensive to build, the chest is cut almost entirely from a single sheet of oak plywood (as pictured; almost any species can be substituted). Basically a simple box, six rectangular pieces make up the sides, top and bottom. The curves on the base are traced from full-size patterns.
