As part of this system, these filter cartridges are packed with activated carbon. This carbon works fast at removing odors, discoloration and impurities. Over time, the carbon deactivates and must be replaced. The Aqua-Tech EZ-Change Aquarium Filter Replacements come in a variety of sizes including 5-15 gallon filters, 20-40/30-60 gallon filters, and 10-20 filters.
