About Patchwork Kid: A Boy's Transplant Journey Of Hope

Product Description I have an invisible illness. But I’m not invisible. No, you will see me smile as I stand up to one of the most scary things I have ever seen. And I believe I will win. Patchwork Kid reveals the true account of a boy and his family as they endure nightmarish hardships in a struggle to keep him alive. Noah was born with a devastating intestinal defect and later he would encounter dire complications that would alter the course of his health forever. As his family desperately clings to one another, they take one precious day at a time towards an unknown future and against an unforgiving illness. Written through my eyes, his father, I will lead you into an extraordinary young boy’s journey against the bully of transplant-related chaos. Noah braves these storms with resolve and he defies the odds with heart, contagious laughter and a bucketful of hope. My son’s life is a true inspiration. His character reminds us to stand courageously as we face our own daunting calamities. It’s your turn to believe. From the Author Thank you for spending a few moments exploring Patchwork Kid. A mission of allowing millions of readers their very own front seat to our story fuels my purpose. And you are invited as well. The journey of writing this memoir required a number of years. Once I began typing the manuscript, I understood my time would be scarce between supporting a family of six with my full-time role as the bread winner and with the constant movement of crisis with our son's illness. I drew from vivid experiences and from a collection of years writing updates on a hospital provided platform before the days of FaceBook. Eight years later, and after endless late night writing sessions, I completed the first draft. It was a significant accomplishment considering all of life's circumstances. The artwork was designed and crafted by Scott Bowlin here in Pittsburgh. He led his team through his cover concept and kept the integrity of his idea in tact. It was bold and deliberate in keeping visual pace with other successful novels and popular books of our day. After completion, I was elated with the finished work and Scott requested to keep his name off of artwork/design credits. I agreed, but give him praise with every opportunity I can on social media. His intense dedication and creative work was all donated to our family. He is one of our heroes. On a sad note, our son recently passed away in December 2018. Noah was admitted at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in September 2018 for an intense rejection of all three of his transplanted organs. His illness progressed and, after three surgeries by the transplant team, his internally bleeding could not be resolved. On the evening of December 6, he peacefully passed away while under a medically induced coma. Noah was twenty-five years old and lived his life to the fullest. I truly appreciate any consideration you make in picking up a copy of our story. Patchwork Kid will forever live in my heart as an achievement towards a desire to tell the world about the magnificent hope we've had through such dark times. It will also honor Noah forever and his wonderful life. Living with a medically fragile child is a trying and arduous road, but has taught me priceless life lessons.
