About Outsidepride 25 Seeds Annual Scarlet Runner Bean

The Scarlet Runner Bean Mix produces an attractive, decorative plant to have growing up a back fence or trellis, and it also provides a nutritious bean that is great to eat. Phaseolus coccineus is a fast growing annual that prefers full sun and a structure to climb. It can reach over 12 feet tall, and it produces clusters of crimson red, white, and bi-colored red and white flowers. The beans grow up to a foot long and are especially good when picked and eaten when they are young and tender. Picking the beans will encourage continuous blooming, and Runner Beans are very attractive to both hummingbirds and butterflies. Start the seed outside in spring after frost season has passed. Cover the seed with 1 inch of soil and keep it moist. Plant seeds 3 inches apart and thin to 6 inches apart when the seedlings are 2 inches tall. At 70F, germination is usually within 14 days. Runner Beans need regular watering to keep producing.
