About Palmetto PE1000 Series Graphite Loaded Aramid

This Palmetto style PE1000 aramid, graphite, and PTFE compression packing seal protects dynamic equipment from fluid leaks in abrasive slurry and high-pressure applications. The interwoven braided packing seal is made of Palmetto’s proprietary material (Zenar) containing aramid with a coating of ultra-pure graphite particles and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Aramid provides high tensile strength and abrasion resistance. Ultra-pure graphite powder is added to reduce thermal expansion and transfer heat away from the shaft to prevent glazing and scoring, extending the packing and sleeve life. Graphite also improves the packing’s ability to handle high shaft speeds. PTFE adds lubricity to the packing to improve sealing and further reduce the risk of wear. The packing seal is saturated with Palmetto’s proprietary inert lubrication system (Matrix) that improves break-in time, reduces frictional heat, and prevents the packing from spinning with the shaft or stem, reducing the chance of scoring and wear.This packing seal is compatible with media in the pH range of 1-13, has a pressure rating of 6,000 pounds per square inch (psi), a pressure-velocity (PV) factor of 800,000, and a shaft surface speed of 3,000 feet per minute (fpm). It operates across a wide temperature range from -400 to 550 degrees F (-240 to 280 degrees C). Style PE1000 is designed for abrasive and slurry service applications, but is also suitable for use in plunger pumps with alternating rings of style 4010AF, centrifugal pumps, agitators, mixers, valves, compressors, and high-pressure hydraulic cylinders, among others.
