About Heroes Spell: Surangama Mantra Commentary
The Heroes Spell is the Surangama Mantra from the Surangama Sutra. This is the most powerful mantra used in daily morning services around the world. It is most powerful because it allows you to transform your mind to meet your expectations. Mind training begins with this the longest of mantras and now it's in English to inspire you. I hope other translators will take this and put it into other languages, thus creating merit. The translation is based upon the Chinese text from the Taisho Edition of the Mahayana Tripitaka in Chinese: T19n0945 da fo dingshou lengyan shen zhou - Great Buddha Highest Leading Heroes Spirit Spell. The myth is one version only is right, there has always been more than one version. For a starting point the Taisho Edition is considered the most comprehensive collection of Mahayana, but there are versions of same mantra in different places. Variation are common in Buddhist Sutras. There are 9 versions of this mantra given 7 in English 2 in Chinese. This is the first time this commentary is published. The benefit from knowing different versions is one of convenience and affinity, you won't know which you prefer until you read them all. There is a feminine version for women included.
