English summary: In 1935, work on the Lower Saxony Dictionary began at the University of Göttingen. With its completion, it will not only be by far the biggest Low German dictionary, but also one of the most extensive large format landscape dictionaries. The focus of this research is based on a theoretical outline of dictionary research, the focus lying on individual research themes of lexicographic work. Using the example of the Lower Saxon Dictionary, the material base, the linguistic concept, the financing practice, the human and technical resources, the institutional integration, as well as contextualization within the German large scale lexicography, will be addressed. Thus, the present work is the first ever systematic presentation of a large format German dialect dictionary. The extensive appendix, consisting of numerous documents, lists, and photos on the history of the Lower Saxony Dictionary, is user friendly and available in digital form on the enclosed compact disk. German text. German description: 1935 begannen an der Universität Göttingen die Arbeiten am Niedersächsischen Wörterbuch. Mit seiner Fertigstellung wird es nicht nur das mit Abstand grösste niederdeutsche Wörterbuch, sondern eines der umfangreichsten Grosslandschaftswörterbuecher sein.Im Mittelpunkt der vorliegenden Untersuchung stehen, ausgehend von einem theoretischen Abriss zur Wörterbuchforschung, die einzelnen Forschungsschwerpunkte lexikografischer Arbeit. Am Beispiel des Niedersächsischen Wörterbuchs werden die Materialbasis, die sprachwissenschaftliche Konzeption, die Finanzierungspraxis, die personelle und technische Ausstattung, die institutionelle Einbindung sowie die Kontextualisierung innerhalb der deutschsprachigen Grosslandschaftslexikografie thematisiert.
