Echeveria 'black prince' is a hybrid by Frank Reinelt of Capitola, California. It is a cross between echeveria shaviana and echeveria affinis (black knight) and one of the darkest echeverias. The center of this gorgeous succulent is green but will turn dark purple to black with full sun. This echeveria is a clumping hens and chicks variety with tight rosette leaves. A black prince can reach 10 inches in diameter and blooms vibrant salmon colored blooms from late fall to mid winter. Propagate this beauty by trimming pups or offsets from full leaves or by cutting. Preferring full-sun or very bright light this echeveria will do well in a pot near a bright window or in the yard. We do recommend easing your new plant into full sun. Similar to most echeverias this plant will do best in warm, dry climates and is susceptible to frost damage. Use a well draining cactus or succulent soil mix and only water when the soil is completely dry. Fertilize in the spring and summer months bi-weekly to monthly.
