Boasting one of the nation's largest and most diverse Italian American populations, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, joins old and new with events such as La Corsa dei Ceri or St. Ubaldo Day in Jessup and La Festa Italiana on Scranton's Courthouse Square. Every town in the county with an Italian population has its own story. Whether the people can trace their origins to Guardia or Gubbio, Felitto or Perugia, the Italians of Lackawanna County all share one thing in common: a strong sense of pride in their ethnic origins. In Images of Modern America: Italians of Lackawanna County, readers will find familiar images of summertime traditions, as well as new representations of how the region's Italian community seeks to preserve its heritage. Review "Italians of Lackawanna County" is a true pictorial narrative of Italian-Americans and how tradition is important to all. There could have been more narrative, but the pictures told the story of how this culture lives. This is a book about a culture of ethics and pride. The Italian phrases that were used at the beginning of each chapter and the short introductions written before the pictures were very helpful." - Nonfiction Authors Association Book Awards Program "Italians of Lackawanna County" is a marvelous book that espouses, not only the special attributes of Italians, but, moreover, Americans. Ours is a great country because of our people. We commend Stephanie Longo for adding one more book in the record of America's greatness." - PRIMO Magazine "Going through this book is akin to being virtually in touch with the Italian culture and customs. The author compiled text and images which show how beautiful the Italian community in America is and how wonderful the people are as they co-exist with others. Stephanie Longo tells the story of the Italians of Lackawanna County in such a distinct and brilliant way that you can't help but admire the way of life of the Italians." - Literary Titan "Stories about first-generation immigrants fill entire books. However, it is rare to find out what happened to the second, third, and fourth generations unless people achieve fame. This is a pity because the descendants' stories can be interesting from many points of view. They can be a good way to understand what is going on in a specific city or region and how people thrive in their new country... On the whole, Italians of Lackawanna County aims at fighting stereotypes-- it shows Italian Americans as an industrious and well-integrated group of people." - Readers Favorite About the Author Stephanie Longo is known locally as an expert on the Italian American history of northeastern Pennsylvania and has authored previous works on the subject, including Italians of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Dunmore, both published by Arcadia Publishing.
