About Maritime Manitowoc: 1847-1947

Product Description From schooners to submarines, Manitowoc has been home to shipbuilders and their craft for over 200 years. Thanks to the vast collections of the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, Maritime Manitowoc: 1847-1947 uncovers the fascinating and colorful Golden Age of shipbuilding in the area. This book explores the remarkable history of Manitowoc's shipyards and the magnificent ships that were built there. These ships have sailed the Great Lakes as well as open oceans across the world. About the Author The Wisconsin Maritime Museum, located in Manitowoc, is dedicated to preserving the maritme history of Wisconsin and the Great Lakes. The museum is one of the largest maritime museums in the Midwest and an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. It is also the only maritime museum on the Great Lakes accredited by the American Association of Museums. A dedicated group of volunteers presents this collection of photographs, most of which are previously unpublished, to help educate the public about the rich shipbuilding history of the area.
