About MICROWAVE RADIO Handy Reference Guide

Product Description Endorsed by an array of current international experts, this book is a fully up-to-date reference guide for microwave radio transmission planners, equipment designers, Network Operations Centre (NOC) staff as well as field operations technicians responsible for commissioning and maintaining wireless telecoms networks. The book covers the fundamentals of microwave transmission from first principles and is written in a down-to-earth and practical style so that it is suitable for anyone wanting an authoritative and easy-to-read overview of microwave radio planning, design and deployment.  Mathematical formulas are avoided, yet the topic is covered in-depth and includes many insights and practical tips and advice not covered in mainstream literature.  As the author has built the material up starting from legacy equipment and legacy standards, current equipment with advanced features and countermeasures are presented in the context of real-world networks. Practical advice is also given on how to bridge the gap in using outdated standards and formulas, often programmed into software planning tools, to address deployments in current networks.  Review At last, a handy and affordable reference guide which demystifies microwave. Professor Andy Sutton, BT This short book has managed to provide a comprehensive overview of both old and new, which is not an easy task. Dr Jonas Edstam, Ericsson An easy-read for all new planners, but also a great reference handbook for experienced planners. Oliver Bosshard, Real Wireless I would not often describe a book on microwave radio systems as a "page-turner," but I found I wanted to keep reading. Adrian Grilli, European Utility Telecoms Council This book truly covers the A-Z of microwave planning. Lloyd Mphahlele, MTN Extremely effective"how-to" guide for microwave link design. An expert mix of practical experience and background theory. Paul Kennard, McKay Brother International About the Author Trevor Manning has had the rare opportunity to see all the facets of designing and operating a microwave radio network. He has a career spanning 30 years working in various roles, for both Operators and suppliers, including as a design engineer, a maintenance and NOC engineer, a propagation researcher, a presales support engineer, as well as various senior management roles. His first experience was gained designing and building a 100M dollar microwave radio network in South Africa, which included all aspects of new-site build, as well as radio link designs. Recently he helped to design and build the world's longest high capacity Ethernet link (>200km) in Australia. He understands both the technical and commercial challenges to designing, building and operating networks. Trevor Manning is the author of the classic and best-selling Artech House book "Microwave Radio Transmission Design Guide" (second edition). He currently lives in Brisbane, Australia where he runs a consultancy business, specialising in helping engineers transition to management roles. He has written several books on the subject of Leadership, in addition to running the operational part of the business for Vertel - Australia's largest private wireless carrier.
