Rare Disease Day is February 28th this year. The main objective of Rare Disease Day is to raise awareness amongst the general public and decision-makers about rare diseases and their impact on patients' lives. Building awareness of rare diseases is so important because 1 in 20 people will live with a rare disease at some point in their life. Despite this, there is no cure for the majority of rare diseases and many go undiagnosed. This day hits close to home for me! My 15 month old nephew, Nolan, was recently dianosed with Mowat-Wilson syndrome. He is one of under 400 diagnosed in the United States. I love someone RARE! I am proud of someone RARE! I will proudly wear my shirt in support of Nolan, not only on February 28th but most defintely on Feb 28th!
