About Republicans: Essays On Eighteenth-Century Dutch

Product description The notion of being freeborn republicans bound the eighteenth-century Dutch together. Yet beneath this general label, many fundamental differences existed. This book explores the varieties of eighteenth-century Dutch republicanism. It thereby significantly contributes to our understanding of a crucial period in the development of Dutch political thought. About the Author Wyger R.E. Velema, Ph.D. in History, the Johns Hopkins University, has published widely on the history of eighteenth-century political thought. He teaches at the University of Amsterdam and is currently co-director of the NWO research program The First Dutch Democracy: The Political World of the Batavian Republic, 1795-1801.
