Product Description Probably the only scale book you will ever need! Contains all 24 major and melodic minor scales AND arpeggios. Each scale and arpeggio has complete fingerings for one, two, and three octaves. It is very hard to find books that have one, two, and three octaves scales shown separately! Also includes some suggested bowing patterns, which are shown at the bottom of the page. Many books are in circle of fifths order, which is less practical. When students are working on F major, an easy scale, you must hunt for it way in the back. This book is organized in the order that most students will learn scales. The order (major scales) is C, G, F, D, Bb, etc. Each page has all of the scales and arpeggios for that key. This can start conversations about future playing: here’s where you will be someday! By having the arpeggios on the same page as the scales, you can easily see the structure of chords as they relate to scales. It is helpful to show 1, 2, and 3 octave scales separately, but hard to find. Students can get confused if they are learning a one octave scale while seeing a two octave scale on the page. It is often hard for them to stop in the middle and pick it back up near the end. This book is meant to be easy to read and follow. The scales are not obscured with bowings or theory notations. The goal is simplicity, clarity, and completeness. From the Inside Flap Why publish another scale book? For students: Many scale books are cluttered with bowing patterns written over the scales, or have different scale variations mixed in. I think this makes it hard to see and understand the actual scale. I am hoping you will find this book to be easier to read and follow. There are different ways of marking extensions. Don't be distressed if these are different from what you have seen. I would suggest putting a tag or marker at the beginning of the minor scale section to make it easier to find. For teachers: I couldn't find a scale book that I liked for my students,so I decided to make my own. If you are interested in a version of this book without fingerings, let me know and I'll create one. Many books are in circle of fifths order, which I find less practical. When students are working on F major, you must hunt for it way in the back. This book is organized more in the order that students will learn scales. Also, there aren't enough books with one octave scales, and students get confused if they are supposed to stopin the middle and pick it back up near the end. I like the idea of having all three octaves on one page. It can start conversations about future playing; here's where you will be someday! By having the arpeggios on the same page as the scales, you can talk about the structure of chords as they relate to scales. This book is meant to be easier to read and follow by omitting the theory and patterns such as broken thirds often found in scalebooks. My goal was simplicity, clarity, and completeness. I included a circle of fifths diagram so that students can check off the scales as they learn them. About the Author Sheryl Smith is a cellist in Richmond, Virginia.
