Ninety three year-old Earl Wild and the music of Rachmaninoff have always been a match made in heaven. Mr. Wild was a good friend of Sergei Rachmaninoff and attended every public concert he could arrange to get to from the time he was a early teen (in the late 1920s) until the composers death in 1943. These remasterings of 1992 recordings of the two sets of Variations, Sonata No. 2, and Preludes are performed with just the right blend of elegance and drama. An added bonus to this 2-CD set are three of Rachmaninoff's most popular piano transcriptions performed impeccably as only Earl Wild can. This is a recording to own and cherish for years to come.
