This book provides a rare glimpse into certain aspects of Jewish life. Although not an autobiography in the strictest sense of the word, it presents one man’s experiences in chronological order, beginning with the immediate postwar period and continuing on up to the present. Many of the stories related here took place against the backdrop of the rise and fall of a prominent Jewish family —the author’s own. Some were written shortly after the described events took place while others were composed decades later. In many cases the passage of time has transformed their initial impact into humor. In others the heartbreaks and heroics are felt as vividly as if they happened only yesterday. Still others cover issues not often addressed through regular education or the media.
