Ali Ahmad studied with family members in Benares and has a style that is somewhat less ornamented than that of the great Bismillah Khan. Ali Ahmad presents raga Gorakh Kalyan, a night raga of romantic mood, and maintains the mood of romance with semi-classical pieces in ragas Manjh Khamaj and Bhairavi.
