The KleenWater KW4520CB-SlowPhos is a compatible replacement to the RCFS236.describes their filter as a softener which can fill the consumer with unrealistic high expectations that likely will be unfulfilled. A water softener operates on the principle of cation exchange which removes hardness cations and replaces them with sodium ions. Soft water is absent of dissolved mineral that cause harness i.e. calcium and magnesium. Our water filter does not soften the water but the Slow Phos polyphosphate does sequester the hardness cations thus inhibiting mineral scale formations and minimizing corrosion throughout the water system. The SlowPhos ingredient is also effective at removing existing accumulated scale especially in the hot water system. Scale accumulation in a hot water heater can lead to significant inefficiency. As the scale thickens it acts as an insulator obstacle that the heat source has to battle to increase the water temperature. An 1/8" scale formation in a hot water system can increase energy demands 30-40%. The NSF approved SlowPhos polyphosphate will react with naturally occurring calcium bicarbonates in the water supply to form a thin, tight, non-corrosive, passivating film on pipe walls. This film is almost like a glass coating, separating the water from the metal plumbing/hot water system. Also the activated carbon content will adsorb chlorine and chemicals yielding very high quality water. The cartridge dimension is 4.5" (W) X 20" (L) and is of carbon block construction. It will allow up to 7 gallons per minute flow rate and will remove chlorine for 18,000 gallons. This cartridge size can lead to restricted flow rates and reduced pressure. Removes dirt and sediment down to 5 microns.
