Manufactured from high purity (95+ carbon assay) premium carbon staple yarn. Individual yarns are single-end coated and single-end dried prior to braiding with high temperature non-petroleum based lubricant with graphite dispersion. Garlock style 98 offers energy savings and the benefits of unrivaled service life as compared to other carbon yarns due to its high purity, staple carbon fiber construction. Not all carbon fiber packings are created equal. The two attributes that differentiate carbon fiber are purity levels and whether the yarn is made from a continuous filament or from staple fibers. Higher carbon purity improves the temperature and chemical resistance of the braid while the fiber type affects sealing. Simply put, braid constructed from staple fibers conforms to the stuffing box better, requiring lower gland load to make a seal. That lower gland load translates into a packing that will last up to 3 times longer than those made from continuous filaments. It also means that there will be less frictional drag on the shaft which translates to energy savings in rotating equipment and easier operation in valves. The Garlock family of companies is acknowledged as the global leader in high-performance fluid sealing and pipeline protection products for industry and infrastructure. Founded in 1887 and headquartered in Palmyra, NY, Garlock has 18 global operations employing more than 2,000 people.
