Students will learn the process behind chromatography while trying it out for themselves
Perform thin layer chromatography with four dyes, and determine whether each dye has a singular component or is composed of a mixture
Kit includes enough materials for 15 groups of students
Students will practice forming and testing hypotheses, as well as drawing conclusions from observations
Suitable for grades 6 and up
This Innovating Science kit is used to study thin layer chromatography (TLC) and the separation of chemical substances. Students will perform their own chromatography using four colored dyes and determine whether each dye is made up of a single component or multiple. Students will also be able to test different solvents to assess how solvent composition affects the chromatography. This kit provides enough material for 15 groups of students, and includes detailed instructions, student study guide copymasters, and safety data sheets for all included materials. Science education products incorporate applied math and science principles into classroom and homeschool-based projects. Teachers in pre-K, elementary, and secondary classrooms use science education kits and products alongside science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) curriculum to demonstrate STEM concepts and real-world applications through hands-on activities. Science education projects include a broad range of activities, such as practical experiments in engineering, aeronautics, robotics, energy, chemistry, physics, biology, and geology. Innovating Science products, manufactured by Aldon Corporation, include educational kits for the chemistry, life science, green chemistry, advanced placement chemistry, and forensic fields. Aldon Corporation was founded in 1964, and is headquartered in Avon, NY. What’s in the box?
