About Triplanetary, First In The Lensman Series

The first book in the Lensman series – a serial sci-fi saga and a space opera ranked the second best all-time series after Asimov's Foundation - Triplanetary is a heroic story of saving planet Earth and its humans from alien invaders trying to rob our globe of its iron resources. The story was first serialized in 1934 in the magazine Amazing Stories, before the Lensman Series, and was re-written and transformed into the first two prequels to the series by the author himself only much later. The novel consists of two parts. The first part tells about the several eons long conflict between Good and Evil, that is, between Arisians and Eddorians and about the eugenics projects undertaken by the Arisians to breed to separate genetic lines of humans to be used as weapons against the Eddorians – the two lines are supposed to mate at the peak of their development. The story of Triplanetary unfolds at a multi-galactic level, taking the eternal fight between good and evil to a cosmic level. We see how the most important events of human history were shaped by this fight – by Arisians and Eddorians in the book, but ultimately between Good and Evil - , the fall of Atlantis, the craze of Nero, the First and the Second World War all being events influenced and informed by the fight. The book is also full of futuristic scientific discoveries such as the discovery of inertialess drive that makes it possible to travel at speeds exceeding the speed of light and others which all contribute to the complexity of E. E. “Doc” Smith's amazing world. Triplanetary is an absolute must-read for any fan of space operas – you will certainly recognize elements you saw in the Star War series and other major works of the genre, E. E. “Doc” Smith being one of the most influential sci-fi writers even in our days.
