About Diego, Dora & Friends' Animal Jamboree
Amazon.com Animal Jamboree, like every other disc spun off of Dora and Diego's insanely popular Nickelodeon TV shows, isn't the kind of record moms and dads buy to enjoy with their preschoolers. It's more the take-it-into-your-room-and-keep-the-volume-low variety (this despite the presence of several songs that almost no adult can listen to without singing loudly and goofily along: can you resist "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and "Joy to the World"?). Leaving aside the obvious affronts to grown-up sensibilities--the flat, loud voices; the interactive elements that refuse to let a sleepy parent slip into a semi-coma while listening; the cheap cheeping in the gratuitously grating "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" song--there's a lot to like here. The skillful blending of Spanish words into every song is by now a Dora and Diego standard, but Animal Jamboree takes it one step further, directing the language lab into the biology classroom. "Crocodile Rock" never seemed so educational and Doctor Doolittle's "Talk to the Animals" loses a lot of its hot air.
