Versatility - works for tube sizes18mm to 66mm, any fin thickness
The Guillotine Fin Jig is one of the most versatile alignment fixtures that we've ever seen. It allows you to put fins on straight, on any size tube, not just the standard sizes! The secret to its versatility is the square aperture opening that the tube slides through. The size of the opening is controlled by sliding the end panels up or down. It will work on any tube bigger than a BT-20 (18mm diameter), all the way up to, and including a 2.6 inch diameter tube (BT-80, or 66 mm diameter). Not only does it allow any size tube, but it will take any fin thickness too, without having to use any shims to align the fin along the centerline where the fin attaches to the tube. It will accept paper-thin fins, all the way up to fins that are 1/2-inch (12mm) thick. Plus, you can use it to attach any number of fins on your body tube, not just three or four fin configurations. That means you can use this fin jig to get perfectly aligned fins on almost any rocket you might be building. What is the draw-back of this device? Great question. The one thing we wish it did was to index the fins on the tube. In other words, it doesn't help you to control the spacing between the fins. To do that, you'll need to pre-mark the tube with the centerline for each fin. If it is a standard size tube, you can use the Estes Fin Guide to do this before you attach the fins to the tube. The other drawback is that there are NO printed instructions with this device from the manufacturer. We recommend watching the video below very carefully.
