About Sleigh Ride

About the Artist For the last decade, no conductor has done more to introduce audiences worldwide to all genres of music in the symphonic format than Keith Lockhart. From the stage at Carnegie Hall to the Astroturf at Super Bowl XXXVI, the Boston Pops under his direction has earned its well-deserved moniker of ‘America’s Orchestra’. He as infused Boston Pops concerts with an indefatigable energy and enthusiasm, bringing new guest artists, arrangements and compositions to the stage of Symphony Hall in Boston. Named the 20th Conductor of the Boston Pops in 1995, he has led that group in more than 750 concerts and 26 tours, including four to Japan and Korea. He has led the Boston Pops in 38 ‘Evening at Pops’ broadcasts, as well as the annual July Fourth broadcast from the Charles River Esplanade in Boston, which won an Emmy nomination in 2002. In demand as a guest conductor worldwide, Mr. Lockhart has conducted the major symphony orchestras of Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Los Angles, Minnesota, Montreal, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Singapore, Toronto and Vancouver. Since 1998 he has been Music Director of the Utah Symphony. SLEIGH RIDE marks his ninth recording with the Boston Pops. Two previous cd’s, ‘The Celtic Album’ and ‘The Latin Album,’ have earned Grammy® nominations. Product Description SLEIGH RIDE features conductor Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Orchestra in their 9th album together. Chock full of glittering holiday favorites, SLEIGH RIDE includes "Joy to the World", the Hallelujah Chorus (from The Messiah), "Twas the Night Before Christmas", "O Holy Night," and many others, performed by the Boston Pops Orchestra and featuring the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, John Oliver, conductor. From the Artist Dear Friends: There is no time of the year like the holidays, and no other celebration is so centered around and dependent on the ongoing gift of music. Just imagine the holiday season without holiday music! Impossible…and very sad to contemplate. My own Christmas memories, forged in childhood, all have a soundtrack-singing hymns at midnight service on Christmas eve, listening to Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole while decorating the tree, ‘singing along with Mitch’ and, more recently, sharing the great glories of this musical tradition with you. I’ve left a couple of my favorite holiday treats tunder the tree for you, all wrapped up, and with your name on the tag. Happy holidays from all of us at the Boston Pops!—Conductor Keith Lockhart.
