"...marks a major milestone in The Cardinall's Musick's complete Byrd project" (Gramophone) ASV's long-term project The Byrd Edition, having covered all the early Latin church music, now reaches one of its most significant steps with the glorious Cantiones Sacrae of 1575. This legendary collaboration was created jointly by Byrd and his master, Thomas Tallis, and dedicated to Queen Elizabeth I who had granted them a monopoly to print and sell music. Surprisingly there are currently no other recordings covering all 17 of Byrd's magnificent motets.
