About Vagen

Product Description This is a solo album—one man and his instrument. Puma plays Swedish folk/traditional music on the nyckelharpa. Review ... just pure keyed-fiddle playing by an excellent musician in an excellent aural space. -- CDroots A multifaceted musician who brings forth large masterful music with his instrument and is also a stalwart tradition bearer. -- Göran Andersson, Nya Åland Each time I listen, some new wonder jumps out, and I assume that listening will only become deeper over time. -- Brendan Taaffee, Fiddler Magazine Puma is a world-class master ... This is nyckelharpa playing of the highest order ... a definite must-have record ... -- Micke Forsberg, Folkdansaren Puma pulls out all the stops ... -- Henrik Lundqvist, Chromeharp Logg From the Artist This is nyckelharpa. Just a nyckelharpa. No other instruments. This is a bit unusual. Nyckelharpa nowadays is mostly played as part of a group, several nyckelharpas together and maybe some other instruments too. I think this is good. It's an instrument whose sound fits well with many other instruments. But for me, harpa playing is something deeper. The nyckelharpa's decidedly unique voice, its double stops and myriad of small details, multiple nuances which go unnoticed when you play as part of a group, for example. The reason I decided to make this cd was to give you a chance to hear the beauty of just a single nyckelharpa and hopefully appreciate how it can sound. This instrument is truly worth hearing! About the Artist Peter Puma Hedlund is the foremost exponent of the Swedish nyckelharpa in the world today. He is a composer as well as one of the main forces in the revival of the nyckelharpa and it's music. A two time winner of the Nyckelharpa World Championship title,1992 and 2000, he is a well respected and sought after instructor as well as a performance artist on this unusual traditional folk instrument.
