About Go Photo! An Activity Book For Kids

Product Description Go Photo! features 25 hands-on and creative activities inspired by photography. Aimed at children between eight and twelve years old, this playful and fun collection of projects encourages young readers to experiment with their imaginations, get messy with materials and engage with the world in new and exciting ways. Indoors or outdoors, from a half-hour to a whole day, and whether alone or with friends, family or an unsuspecting pet, there is a photo activity for all occasions. Some don't even require a camera! Each project also features a series of pictures and handy tips to help guide the reader step-by-step, building a visual language and encouraging creativity as they go. Accessible, fun and practical, the activities in this book have been brought together to engage children in the fun and wonder of photography. From School Library Journal Gr 3–6—Students looking for projects that give them the opportunity to practice photography skills will treasure this selection of 20-plus photo-related activities. Basic background knowledge of cameras and how to use them will be helpful when approaching this work. Among the projects are a photo scavenger hunt, "selfie fest," photo face masks, treasure hunt, rainbow book, and time capsule. In addition to a camera, users will also need photo paper and a printer. The work opens with a few introductory pages of guidelines and background info. Descriptions for each project average two pages in length and include a supply list, numbered step-by-step directions, tips, and supplementary photos or drawings. The format is consistent. Informally written, the volume is occasionally a bit wordy and sometimes uses trendy vocabulary such as photobombed and wonky. Bright yellow endpapers and solid binding add to the book's packaging. The work lacks a glossary, but terms such as point of view and composition are nicely explained within the text. VERDICT Recommended for libraries in need of stimulating photography projects for upper elementary students.—Lynn Vanca, Freelance Librarian, Akron, OH Review Proujansky touches on technical aspects of photography, such as composition and lighting (and an opening section offers some loose photography rules including turn off the flash), but her emphasis is generally on playful exploration, building readers’ confidence behind the camera through an array of creative projects and ideas. – Publishers Weekly I love that this book can force kids to use their imagination, think outside-of-the-box and in some cases actually spend time outdoors. – Here Wee Read Trust me, this one will get kids thinking creatively and having fun, just in time for summer. – Literary Hoots Highly recommended for children who love photography and creative thinkers. – Here Wee Read About the Author Alice Proujansky is Aperture Foundation’s coordinator of community partnerships. She holds a BFA from the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, and has taught photography and led professional development coaching sessions for educators at Urban Arts Partnership, the Red Hook Community Justice Center, and the New York City Department of Education.
