Whether picking strawberries to earn spending money, sewing her own clothes, or helping with the fall canning, she developed a can-do mindset at a young age. As a young wife and mother, Patricia continued her interest in self-reliance and preparedness and encouraged and supported her husband Jack as he wrote the original Crisis Preparedness Handbook, testing many of the preparedness ideas, methods, and equipment he advocated.
