About Textbook Of Veterinary Histology

Product Description Logically organized by body system, this comprehensive resource provides in-depth coverage of the structure and function of the cells, tissues, and organs of a wide range of domestic animal species. Bridging the gap between the physiology and the gross anatomy of organisms, it also explores new discoveries being made in the areas of molecular biology and cytogenetics. Full-color coverage throughout, including more than 400 color figures that are grouped into major sections for quick reference A wealth of electron micrographs and color micrographs demonstrate cell, tissue, and organ structure A complete art program integrates illustrations and diagrams of cells and tissues to highlight structural-functional correlates Helpful tables of histological features in each chapter summarize key concepts A succinct style and format makes it easy to quickly find important information Chapters begin with a list of key points The author is a trained morphologist and has taught veterinary histology at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine for more than 15 years Review "Before this book there was only one real Veterinary Histology text, and that was Bacha and Bacha, a great book with lots of pictures, but zero textual content, nothing to explain the ‘Why?’ of Histology. Samuelson’s book is a totally different story. There are hundreds of histology pictures, macroscopic images, E.M. pictures, giving you the big picture right down to the tiny little details. And if that wasn’t good enough, the text explains histology!!! I find histology so difficult to understand, but Samuelson’s book explains all of those odd terms you hear in lectures but can’t remember. My only gripe is that there isn’t a Picture Index, to let you reference a particular picture, and the part of the book covering the liver is smaller than I would like, but when you consider that other Histo texts are just pages of pictures with no useful information this is a huge leap forward. I still have my copy of Bacha and Bacha Histology, but it’s going to be getting very dusty on the shelf with my other redundant books." --- 3rd Year Veterinary Medicine student, Royal Veterinary College, London, UK "Textbooks of veterinary histology are rare and the textbook of Don A. Samuelson fulfils this obvious lack. It is a good book. It is richly illustrated by high quality colour photographs which are of great help to the students for interpretation of the histological slides. The text is clearly written and well linked to the illustrations giving the reader a strong introduction to the different structures analysed. The content is appropriate to our study program... there is no doubt that it constitutes a very good book and it will be recommended to the students as a reference textbook. In addition, I have proposed that some copies are purchased by the library." --- Ph. van den Bosch, Université catholique de Louvain, Institut des Sciences de la Vie Review Stay up to date with the latest discoveries in veterinary histology About the Author Don A.
