Beauregard in reference to the posting, at the several fords over Bull Run, the different brigades and batteries of the Confederate forces under his command, to meet the advance of the array of invasion, under Gen. McD owell, then on its march towards Richmond from Washington. I remember the last sentence of the order; it read as follows: In the event of the defeat of the enemy he is to be pursued with cavalry and artillery until he is driven across the Potomac.
