About Fenway Park

Product Description The complete history of the home of "Red Sox Nation." Five days after the sinking of the Titanic, Boston's Fenway Park held its grand opening. Since that day, millions have witnessed the Red Sox play baseball. Their "Royal Rooters" evolved into the "Fenway Faithful" and are now commonly referred to as "Red Sox Nation." Nine World Series have been staged upon Fenway's turf, along with three Major League All-Star Games. Aside from baseball, Fenway has been host to professional and amateur football games, ice hockey, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, hurling, boxing and wrestling matches, and even a circus. Music from concerts has reverberated across its lawn, religious services have been held, and political rallies staged - all adding patches to the quilt of Fenway's rich, illustrious history. The structure that noted author John Updike referred to many decades ago as "a lyric little bandbox" has become one of New England's most beloved historical landmarks. From the Author As Fenway Park celebrates its 100th birthday a plethora of books have been written, and that is as it should be. Its place in history will now be preserved for another half century and the Red Sox and Fenway traditions will be passed down to another three generations. Putting this book together was a labor of love for David, Kerry and I and with the talented staff at Arcadia we were able to successfully convey that fact. Each Fenway book occupies its space but what Images of Fenway Park offers more so than the others is that it is a celebration of the park! We were diligent as we gathered photos to make sure that Fenway Park was the subject, not the Red Sox. Of course the Red Sox are the focal point of Fenway park, however, what Images of Fenway Park offers more than the others is the other events which have taken place there throughout the years. The other interesting aspect of Images of Fenway Park is that of the 220 plus photos in the book, over 40 of them have never before been published; taken by fans who graciously allowed us to display their love for Fenway as well. I hope you enjoy your journey through 100 years of Fenway Park as much as we enjoyed creating it! About the Author David Hickey, Raymond Sinibaldi, and Kerry Keene are all Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) members and have collectively authored seven books and numerous newspaper/magazine articles, hosted sports radio shows, and consulted on the Ted Williams Jimmy Fund statue. Relying heavily on the photographic archives of the Boston Public Library, they have woven the story of Fenway in a magical tapestry of heartbreak, hope, joy, love, and faith.
