About Treasure Hunt Reading: An Explorer's Guide To

Treasure Hunt Reading (THR) was created by Kaity Broadbent (aka Adventure Kait) and the Prenda team in an effort to support learners worldwide! It follows an Orton-Gillingham, multi-sensory, systematic approach to literacy to support learners of all levels and abilities. This workbook is meant to be used alongside the free instructional videos found at treasurehunt.prenda.co. A free digital copy of this workbook is also available on the website if you would like to print it yourself. Join the Treasure Hunt Reading Facebook group for support from Adventure Kait. Please watch the "Helpful Adult Training" video prior to starting a student on this program. The student-facing instructional videos remove the burden of direct instruction from you, the helpful adult. This means that you can learn alongside your student(s) and access high-quality instruction without needing to be an expert yourself! THR works well for homeschoolers, microschoolers, or students in traditional classrooms. It is used internationally by students and educators in a variety of educational settings. Treasure Hunt Reading (THR) is appropriate for learners who are just beginning their learning-to-read journey, stuck or stalled learners, or learners who are looking to deepen their proficiency. Based on the Orton-Gillingham approach and the Science of Reading principles, it is a great fit for any young reader including readers that may struggle with Dyslexia or Dyslexic-like tendencies. THR moves readers through Pre-K print and phonemic awareness development to complex decoding and comprehension. Mastery of the concepts taught within THR typically results in a 3rd/4th-grade reading level and sets learners up to move into advanced reading material naturally. There is no right "pace" to complete the program. We recommend allowing each reader to decide how quickly to progress. Help your students know when they are ready to move on and when they need to practice more before progressing on their journey. The lessons are meant to be instructional in nature. The resources and activities may not provide enough practice for your particular student. You will need to monitor their mastery and engage them in additional practice opportunities based on their individual needs. While THR is a direct instruction, phonics-based learning tool, we can not overstate the importance of providing learners of all ages with rich exposure to high-quality literature, language, and background knowledge-building experiences before, during, and after they learn to read. Reading comprehension requires both decoding skills AND language comprehension. Without a strong vocabulary and knowledge about the world, students will struggle to get the meaning out of what they read, even if they can decode the words. THR Covers Phonemic Awareness The Alphabetic Principle Print Awareness Letter-Sound Correspondence Proper Letter Formation (handwriting) Blending and Segmenting Top 10 Most Common Decoding Rules and Strategies Multisyllabic Words 77 Phonograms 30 True Sight Words This workbook includes 333 full-color pages Mastery tracker for phonograms, rules, sight words, and fluency 40 Decodable Leveled Stories with illustration comprehension checks Games and practice opportunities Sight word flashcard cutouts Letter and letter team card cutouts Helpful practice word lists To participate in the program, learners need Access to the instructional videos (found for free at treasurehunt.prenda.co) This workbook (also available to print for free at treasurehunt.prenda.co) A helpful (literate) adult
