From the Author I took a poll on my FB page not too long ago, and asked which mindful mantra people wanted me to tackle next.  'I believe in myself' was the clear winner and I hope I've done it justice! What I tried to do in this book was to demonstrate to children, using realistic everyday examples, how they will most certainly encounter tricky situations that cause BIG feelings, BUT that they will also be able to handle them.   When someone ELSE gets to push the elevator button and they feel a tantrum coming on, can they handle that situation and that feeling? What are a few things they might do in response to that level of upset?  With a bit of guidance and thinking about these situations, children will see that they CAN handle themselves and that they ARE capable.  They will believe in themselves, improve their self-efficacy and begin to view the world as having challenges to be overcome instead of to be avoided, which is a key element of reducing anxiety.  I hope you enjoy reading 'I Believe in Myself' as much as I enjoyed writing it.  ~Laurie About the Author How I became a childhood mental health specialist. OK, so I'm not really a childhood mental health expert but the 1000s of families I have helped go from struggling with how to talk to kids about their BIG feelings to know the exact words to help BOOST a child's self-esteem, actually think I am. I think it's a nice side effect of helping so many families overcome their struggles after they have been floundering around & feeling desperate for so long. Before I dedicated myself to helping people say adios to crappy self-esteem, low self-worth, and negative self-talk, I was a mom of three with a little idea. It took a lot of inspiration & a truck-load of guts to get to where I am today.  Let's Do the Math... So, the reason I am CALLED a specialist is that one fine day, I decided I was going to really figure this whole childhood mental health thing out. For once, I wanted a solution..not a possible solution but a sure-shot, carved-in-stone solution. And so I did. I gave it my all (time, money, effort) and I am incredibly proud of the results I have managed to get for my people. My books are a quick, simple to read and use resource for parents and teachers, and they will give you the words to start conversations around these important topics.  Use these mantras, give the children in your life a BOOST!
